Goodwill Packer Up Challenge - Help us win a visit from Donald Driver

John Long Students and Families,

Ever wondered what it would be like to combine donating to a great cause and meeting a Super Bowl Champion Packer football player?  Well, do we have the answer for you that is “double” the fun!  As we approach the final stretch up to Spring Break, we would like to share with you an exciting opportunity that our school and community will be participating in during the month of April!

John Long Middle School has the amazing opportunity to participate in the 
Goodwill Packer Up Challenge for 2013.  This challenge is sponsored by Goodwill Stores of Wisconsin.  The school in Wisconsin that donates the most amounts of items to Goodwill on behalf of their school wins the opportunity for Super Bowl winner Donald Driver to visit their school.  

The donation window is right around the corner; 
April 1- April 30, 2013.  April 1st falls during Spring Break, so it is perfect motivation to get started on that spring-cleaning list and start donating.

The Packer Up Challenge event is open to any elementary or grade schools in Wisconsin.  It’s a great opportunity for families to give back to their community, get some spring cleaning done, and help John Long bring Donald Driver to our school!

Prizes for schools with the most amounts of items donated from April 1-April 30 are:

1st Place: A visit by Donald Driver, 12 autographed copies of Donald Driver's children's book and an authentic autographed Packer helmet, signed by Donald Driver.

2nd and 3rd Place: 12 autographed copies of Donald Driver's children's book.

It’s simple to donate, here’s what you do:

1)     Clean out your closets, basements, garage, under the bed, wherever…

2)     Count up your gathered items to donate. 

3)     *Put your donated items in boxes or bags and bring them to your nearest Goodwill store between the dates of April 1 and April 30.

4)   Tell the store worker that you are donating your items on behalf of the Packer Up Challenge.

er The store work will give you a slip, in which you need to fill out:

a.      School: John Long Middle School

b.      City:Grafton

c.       How many items donated: Example 250 

That’sit!  It’s as easy as that!

 *Note:  If you are unable to get to a Goodwill store near you, we will be setting up a collection area at school that you can bring your items to.  Please just indicate on your box or bag how many items you are donating.  We are in the process of planning a central location for students to bring items they cannot get to a Goodwill store.

What items can you donate?  Each item you donate counts as “1 item”.  For example, one book equals one item, one shirt equals one item.  Sadly, one hundred marbles does not equal one hundred items.  Some examples of items you can donate include:

            Books, Toys, Games, Clothes, Footwear, Accessories, Sporting Goods,
    CDs, DVDs, VHS, Electronics, Houseware Items, Pictures, Mirrors, 
            Artwork, Furniture, Appliances,

Who can donate? Anyone can donate!  Students,families, staff members, community members, family members throughout the state, Uncle Bob up north, anyone!  So,please help spread the word to anyone you may know who wants to donate and help a good cause.


Last year the winning school in Wisconsin donated 
70,000 items to Goodwill! If just every student at John Long donated about 175 items, we could surpass that number and bring Donald to our school!

Please help get the word out around John Long and the community, and make this a fun and exciting experience for all to donate to a great cause!

*If you would be willing to help with promotion of this effort in any way please let us know.  We appreciate any help in this fun event!  Thank you to those who have already offered their help.  Also, if
anyone would be willing to put in some time to donate a few hours working at Goodwill as a “celebrity attendant” to help build enthusiasm within the school and community please let us know.

Grafton Gladiator Football Program

The Grafton Gladiators will be holding registration for this fall’s 2013
season on Sunday April 28th and Thursday May 2nd, at 7:00 PM at Circle B Recreation Center. Please arrive at the session of your choice by 7:00 pm for a brief presentation.

The Gladiators is a full-contact tackle football program, playing against other area teams of similar size, weight and age. The goal of the program is to introduce as many young athletes to the sport of football as possible and to have a positive experience while doing so.

This registration is open to any athlete who will be entering either 5th, 6th, 7thor 8th grade this fall, the 2013-2014 school year, and resides inthe Grafton School District.

The registration fee is $225 if registered by June 1st. After June 1st, registration fees increase to $275.In addition, each player must participate in the team fundraisers. Additional information about the program and what is required of the athlete to participate will be provided the night of the registration.

Boy Scout Troop 842 Plant Sale
Boy Scout Troop 842 in Grafton is having a Plant Sale on Saturday, May 11th from 9:00 to 3:00 at St. Paul Lutheran Church on highway 60. The proceeds from this sale primarily fund all of the Troop's annual activities. Please view the plants locally grown on pages 1-12. Every year, our Troop receives comments continually through October, that the plants bought in May, are still as vibrant as the day they were originally purchased. If you are interested in purchasing plants, please print page 13 only, and mail your order to the Scoutmaster Kim Wegmann. If you have any questions about the plants being offered, please contact Kim. He can be reached at 262.377.1421 after 5:00 pm. Finally, plants must be ordered by April 14th.  See attached catalog.
