Help Out the 6th Grade - Upcoming Bake Sale

Don't forget the 6th grade bake sale next week!  Drop off your baked goodies at the office any time Tuesday or Wednesday, and we will do the rest.  The 6th grade needs some help for their upcoming field trip and several other activities.  Also, remember that the holidays are fast approaching, so stop by the bake sale to stock up on freezable treats for the holidays!  Sponsored by the JLMS PTG.

FBLA SUPPORTS MARCH OF DIMES – “MIRACLE MINUTE” ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15

Next week the John Long FBLA Chapter will be completing a project to support a National organization all FBLA Chapters support across the United States – March of Dimes.  Every year there are millions of premature births which result in either extensive health care or death for babies.  Many of those premature births could be prevented.  The national March of Dimes distributes and helps moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies.  They complete their work locally, nationally, and even globally.

The Chapter will be hosting a “Miracle Minute” on Friday, November 15 during Advisory.  All John Long students are asked to donate any amount of change they can – pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters – and even dollar bills - are welcome.  We will be passing a bucket in each Advisory for only one minute and see how much John Long students can help the cause for healthier babies.

Please send any change you many have with your son/daughter next Friday, November 15.  If you have any questions on this project, please contact Mrs. Mathias.

BOAT Race 2013-14 - our "big" fundraiser...
In an effort to bring a new team-based learning opportunity to ALL at JLMS… we will be holding our FIRST ever design challenge. As part of our building wide learning about STEM (Science-Tech-Engineering-Math), design thinking, and problem solving, we present a challenge for individuals and teams (up to 3)... BUILD a boat and RACE it! This is very much like a “pinewood derby race” for the boy scouts, except all kids, all BOATS. we are currently seeking corporate or business sponsors for the event and the purchase of the boats. More info to come in the next month- this is an exciting venture for JLMS!
