FBLA Information

Attention all John Long Students – 6th, 7th and 8th Grades:

FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America, is a national organization that will help you gain leadership skills and meet people throughout the US. We will be participating in competitive events, participate in community service activities, develop more interest in and an understanding of American business enterprise, and of course – have fun!

This year’s student phone directory will again be sponsored by the John Long FBLA Chapter.  The directory is distributed one for every family, so it reaches a large number of people.  The following are forms attached regarding the Directory itself:

-   If you would like to advertise your business and sponsor ad space in the Directory, you can complete the Ad Form and submit your ad to Mrs. Mathias by October 1.

If you wish to receive more than one directory per household, you can complete the form to purchase extra directories for $1 each. This form will also allow you to opt out of including your family information in the directory if you choose.

 will be a contest for students to design the front cover of the directory.  The Cover Contest form describes what students need to do to submit their own design.  All designs are due by October 1 to Mrs. Mathias.

Stars and Strips Honor Flight Essay Contest

Stars and Stripes Honor Flight has an extremely exciting opportunity available for our middle and high school students.

The primary mission of SSHF is flying WWII veterans to see their memorials in Washington DC.  But we also work closely with schools throughout Wisconsin to ensure that the heroic stories of our veterans are told so that future generations will fully appreciate the sacrifices made on their behalf.

To that end...we want to pilot an essay contest program, and we have chosen the Grafton School District for our pilot.

Students who wish to participate, will research a WWII veteran from Wisconsin who is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Each student will be paired with a teacher/mentor who can help guide their research. The Media Specialist at JLMS (Lynn Slowiak) and GHS (Steve Midthun) have agreed to help mentor students, but any teacher is eligible.

The winning student/mentor pair will be invited to join us on our November 3rd Honor Flight and while at Arlington, the student will read a eulogy dedicated to their veteran.

The U.S.S. Liberty Memorial Public Library is offering a program to all teens in 6th - 12th grades.  Please register by calling the library at 262-375-5315 or by visiting the children's checkout desk.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Grafton Black Hawk Dance Team Fall Clinic - Friday, September 28th
The Grafton Black Hawk Dance Team will offer a Fall Clinic on Friday, September 28, at John Long Middle School.  The clinic is open to K-8th Graders and the cost is $35.00.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Receiving Public Health Department Vaccines - Program Change
Beginning October 1, 2012, children whose insurance covers immunizations will not be able to receive vaccines at the local health department.  Please see the attached flyer.

Grafton Basketball Club Sign Up

The 6th annual fall clinic and travel team sign up will be on Sundays:  Oct 7th, Oct. 14th, Oct. 21st, and Oct. 28th.  The fee is $30.00 and includes a Back Pack.  Session 1 is for boys and girls grades 2, 3, and 4, 1:00pm - 2:15pm.  Session 2 is for boys and girls grades 5, 6, 7, an 8, 2:30-pm - 4:00pm.  The locations of the clinic will be Grafton High School Gym.
