Stars and Strips Honor Flight Essay Contest

Stars and Stripes Honor Flight has an extremely exciting opportunity available for our middle and high school students.

The primary mission of SSHF is flying WWII veterans to see their memorials in Washington DC.  But we also work closely with schools throughout Wisconsin to ensure that the heroic stories of our veterans are told so that future generations will fully appreciate the sacrifices made on their behalf.

To that end...we want to pilot an essay contest program, and we have chosen the Grafton School District for our pilot.

Students who wish to participate, will research a WWII veteran from Wisconsin who is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Each student will be paired with a teacher/mentor who can help guide their research. The Media Specialist at JLMS (Lynn Slowiak) and GHS (Steve Midthun) have agreed to help mentor students, but any teacher is eligible.

The winning student/mentor pair will be invited to join us on our November 3rd Honor Flight and while at Arlington, the student will read a eulogy dedicated to their veteran.

Get all the guidelines here and Good Luck!
